Essential Care Centers Attended the African Immigrants Wellness Fair
A few months ago, we were proud to be a part of the African Immigrants Wellness Fair on May 10th, organized by the Liberian Advanced Practice Providers Network (LAPPN). This nonprofit is committed to promoting health equity in African communities through education, advocacy, and mentorship.
The event drew an incredible crowd, with 175 attendees, 19 vendors, and 10 speakers. Important health services were provided, including mammograms and blood pressure checks. The fair created a safe and culturally sensitive space for open conversations about mental health, helping to break down long-standing stigma while encouraging healing, awareness, and support.
In many immigrant communities, mental illness is still often misunderstood or rarely discussed. Events like this are vital in changing that narrative—reminding us that wellness includes mental health just as much as physical health, and that asking for help is a sign of strength.
